Jean Blackmer is a traditional watercolor artist with a passion for painting realism with vivid colors and a light touch. Preferring to paint from her own photographs, Jean paints a wide array of subjects such as realistic landscapes, still life's and portraits.
As a self-taught artist, Jean learned to paint from how-to books, working in many mediums through the years including acrylics, oils, clay and wood. Presently she has a stained glass studio as well as a painting studio where she has been creating original watercolors since 1992.
The former nurse began her "second" career in the field of art in 1991 after graduating from Augusta Technical Institute. Recently retired from Lower Savannah Council of Governments in Aiken, Jean was the Graphic Coordinator for four years before evolving into the GIS (Geographic Information System) field.
An award winning artist, Jean has shown her work in several shows.  Her artwork can be found in private collections and in several publications. She is a member of the South Carolina Watercolor Society and the Watercolor Society of North Carolina.
