Jean Blackmer is a
traditional watercolor artist with a passion for painting realism with vivid
colors and a light touch. Preferring to paint from her own photographs, Jean
paints a wide array of subjects such as realistic landscapes, still life's and
portraits.
As a self-taught artist,
Jean learned to paint from how-to books, working in many mediums through the
years including acrylics, oils, clay and wood. Presently she has a stained glass
studio as well as a painting studio where she has been creating original
watercolors since 1992.
The former nurse began
her "second" career in the field of art in 1991 after graduating from Augusta
Technical Institute. Recently retired from
Lower Savannah
Council of Governments in Aiken, Jean was the Graphic Coordinator for four
years before evolving into the GIS (Geographic Information System) field.
An award winning artist, Jean has shown her work in several shows.
Her artwork can be found in private collections and in several publications. She
is a member of the South Carolina Watercolor
Society and the Watercolor Society of North Carolina.
