Ag+Art Chickens | Thoroughbred Country

This year, all four counties of Thoroughbred Country are taking part in the South Carolina Ag + Art Tour. The South Carolina Ag + Art Tour is a free, self-guided tour of farms and markets that feature local artisans at every stop! During the tour, visitors have the opportunity to see first-hand where their food comes from, watch artists in action and purchase their works, enjoy the melodies of local musicians and learn more about rural life. The tour is the largest free farm and art tour in the nation with over 85,000 visitors participating since 2012.

Aiken County      May 11, 2024

Aiken County is known throughout the world for its equestrian training facilities and rich history. Nestled among these sites is fertile farmland and unique agricultural attractions. In this county you can see animals from around the world, explore an old country farm with a unique crinum lily garden, delve into the world of a small-scale female-owned sustainable farm and much more.

Bamberg County      May 18-19, 2024

The cool, black waters of the Edisto River provide the backdrop for Bamberg County's history and charm. The natural beauty is enhanced with one-of-a-kind experiences. Enjoy a whimsical butterfly conservatory. Visit a low country hunt club. Watch sawmill demonstrations. Or learn about a research and extension farm serving as a place for outreach to the state’s minority farmers.

Allendale County      June 1, 2024

Allendale is the youngest county in South Carolina and is decorated with historic churches, cemeteries and Indigenous heritage. In this county you can peruse a seasonal community open-air market featuring a colorful array of fresh produce and handcrafted goods along with kid’s games and community resources, watch botanical soap making demonstrations or enjoy the charm of rural life on a family farm. Be sure to stop by the Topper Site Exhibit at USC Salkehatchie for a step back in time to the Pre-Clovis era.

Barnwell County      June 8-9, 2024

Barnwell County is full of hidden gems that are a great accompaniment to the artistic and agricultural attractions of the area. Experience the county and watch pottery demonstrations, visit a working cattle farm, pick your own lavender, enjoy a variety of goat milk products and farm fresh meats or visit chickens who live in a spaceship coop.
