|Event Name:||Art Exhibit: Voices Made Visual & Create: Rural SC|
|Event Description:||'Voices Made Visual' is a juried art exhibition and competition celebrating the majesty and plurality of voices, past and present, that have shaped, and continue to shape, our national dialogue. Ever since the American revolutionaries won independence from England, the voices of average citizens have helped to blaze the trail for this great nation.
Part of the Voices and Votes: Democracy in America traveling exhibit of the Smithsonian Institution, on display at the Aiken County Historical Museum from July 23 through September 3, 2022. In anticipation of this honor, a Program Committee has worked with partners to assemble 15 different events from late February to early September, to be held free of charge in venues across the community. The exhibit and all programs offer wide-ranging reflections on the storied history of voting rights in America, many with a local focus.
'Create: Rural SC' presents the work of five rural artists. Each artist has his own unique style, but all work as Creative Connectors for the SC Arts Commission's initiative 'Create: Rural SC'. To fuel local connection and discovery the SC Arts Commission enlisted the help of 12 "Creative Connectors" who sought creative contacts across Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper counties. Together, they built a network of young creatives making names for themselves in their rural communities instead of leaving for larger, urban locales.
Exhibits will be on display June 23 - July 28. Reception June 23 at 6pm.
