|Event Name:||Program: What Do You Do with Dead Soldiers|
|Event Description:||The Battle of Rivers Bridge State Historic Site will present 'What Do You Do with Dead Soldiers', a look at military burial practices during the Civil War, on Saturday, May 14th at 2:00pm.
During the Civil War, Commanders on both sides struggled with the problem of removing the vast amounts of human remains left in the open following large engagements. After the Battle of Shiloh, General Grant noted that "it would have been possible to walk across the clearing in any direction, stepping only on dead bodies, without a foot touching the ground".
Join us as we answer the question: 'What do you do with dead soldiers' and discuss how the dead were addressed both at large and at the Battle of Rivers Bridge. This free, indoor, Powerpoint style, presentation will take place at the Park Office and will be 1-1.5 hours long.
Due to the mature subject matter and graphic images of death, this program is for mature audiences only and parental discretion is strongly advised.
