|Event Name:||The Topper Site Discussion|
|Event Description:||Dr. Albert C. Goodyear leads a discussion on the Topper site which is located in Allendale. The site is the oldest radiocarbon dated archaeological site in the Americas.
The Topper site is located on the banks of the Savannah River in Allendale County SC. It is a well known chert quarry site where prehistoric peoples visited for thousands of years to obtain flint-like stone to manufacture their tools. Excavations there for over 20 years yielded artifacts related to at least two significant cultures. In 1984 Dr. Goodyear led a survey in Allendale County searching for stone quarries that prehistoric peoples exploited to make their stone tools. Several were found including Topper which was nominated to the National Register of Historic Places at the National level of significance.
