Upcoming Event
Event Name: Exhibit Reception: 'Mask-A-Raid 3'
Event Occurs: Once
Event Description: Join the Center for African American History, Art & Culture on Thursday, February 22 for "Mask-A-Raid 3," an exhibit by Keith Tolen.

A symphony of stares watches the viewer at every turn. Visual elements such as line, color form and texture beckon human contact. The singular message from the artist's images is "Hope", which can easily be found when we take a moment to look with our heart, soul and mind.

Keith Tolen, a native of South Carolina, owes his adventure into the arts to the rich community that sheltered and nurtured him. Growing up in the small town of Batesburg-Leesville, SC, he was surrounded by family. In the mid-seventies, he discovered a broader family as he traveled to SC State to attend college. His life, along with his art career, revolved around a fifty-mile nuclear core. Travel was reserved for the local libraries. Reading has always been his means of journeying through life. For thirty years, he worked as an art teacher. He is currently retired and seeking to continue the journey of exploration through the creation of his artwork.
