Event Name: SC Humanities - Blue Jeans & Blue Grass Kick Off

Event Description: Every year, South Carolina Humanities sponsors a Humanities Festival in a community in South Carolina. Established in 1993 in honor of South Carolina Humanities' 20th Anniversary, the Humanities Festival has been held in 22 different communities. Each festival celebrates the local history and culture of the host community, engaging the citizens in lectures, discussions, films, and exhibits and facilitating partnerships among cultural organizations and community groups.

Blue Jeans & Blue Grass Kick Off Event - 5 to 8 pm at the Arts & Heritage Center of North Augusta
- Meet SC's Folk Artist: Ernest Lee "The Chicken Man"
- Featuring MotorKeg tap truck and food truck with Music by The Henry's
- Unveiling of the Updated Historic Driving Tour Brochure and New Addition of Don Rhodes' Book, "North Augusta"
- Jazz! Art Quilts in Performance in the Upper Gallery. Features African American Story Quilts of Dr. Marlene O'Bryant-Seabrook celebrating the American Jazz Era. Opening talk by Wayne O'Bryant. He will also be on hand to discuss his mother's quilts during the kick off.
- Palmetto Park & Pond Display in the Upper Gallery. Back in the depths of the Jim Crow South, there was a place in North Augusta where whites and blacks came together through a mutual love of swing and big band music. It was known as Palmetto Park, a swimming pond and dance hall for blacks off Carolina Springs Road. Throughout the 1930s and into the early '40s, the park played host to some legendary performers.
- Mackenzye Barkfield's "Weaving Though South Carolina". A collaborative weaving exploration the connectedness of people and communities, inspired by our region's rich textile history on display in the Main Gallery.
