With 2,100 acres of natural forest, Hitchcock Woods is the largest privately-owned urban forest in the country. Seventy miles of sandy trails have attracted pedestrian and equestrian users since the early 1800s. There are seven entrances located along the perimeter of the Woods.
Stop by Gateway Park at the South Boundary entrance where you will find informational kiosks along a beautiful walkway describing the Woods, its history, flora and fauna and the challenges of preserving its unique resources.
Admission is free. Open 365 days a year from dawn to dusk. Motorized vehicles and bicycles are not permitted. Scheduled annual events include Aiken Horse Show, Earth Day, Festival of the Woods and Blessing of the Hounds.
