Savannah River

Originally named the Westobou River for the Westo Indians (a warlike tribe who lived in a village on the Westobou), the river was later renamed for the Savannah Native Americans.

Swallow Savannah Cemetery

The Swallow Savannah Methodist Church had its beginnings here in a log house in 1815. When the town of Allendale was founded, around 1875, the church moved to town. The church members hated to leave the old spot and thus began using it as a burying ground. The cemetery is still in use today.

University of South Carolina Salkehatchie

The original building was Allendale's high school. Lighted tennis courts, ball field and park with pond. The library houses a collection of photographs and Indigenous American artifacts.
