Description: The National Audubon Society owns or operates nearly 100 education centers and wildlife sanctuaries across the country, totaling over 150,000 acres. Located near Aiken, South Carolina and Augusta, Georgia, Silver Bluff Audubon Center and Sanctuary, situated along the Savannah River, is an integral part of that system. With 3,250 acres of upland pine forest, hardwood bottomlands, fields, lakes and streams, it is typical of much of the Coastal Plain of Georgia and the Carolinas.
The wide variety of habitats contained within Silver Bluff offer spectacular wildlife viewing opportunities. For the birdwatcher, Silver Bluff boasts a checklist with over 200 species, including the federally threatened Wood Stork and Bald Eagle. Visitors enjoy the miles of walking trails winding through the property along with viewing birds and other wildlife at the Wood Stork foraging ponds. Educational programming, tours, and special events for groups and people of all ages are offered at Silver Bluff. Use of the walking trails (no dogs, please) and entrance to the visitor center is free, though we encourage and appreciate donations. Be sure to visit during their annual event Storks & Corks.
